The Connection Between Acrostic Poetry And God’s Love

Proverbs 31: 10-31 is shared in the form of an acrostic poem. Twenty-two lines, this poem uses letters of the Hebrew alphabet to craft a hymn-like narrative about a woman who is clothed not by the world, but by the Spirit.

IX. Poem on the Woman of Worth[a]

10 Who can find[b] a woman of worth? Far beyond jewels is her value. 11 Her husband trusts her judgment; he does not lack income. 12 She brings him profit, not loss,[c] all the days of her life...

Poetry has roots in the Bible, conveying meaning beyond the literal and sharing God’s truth about us through every perfectly-crafted line. Whether the poem is about a woman of dignity, a parable of Jesus’ love, or a short excerpt about a child, acrostic poetry has been used for hundreds of years to convey the deeper truth of walking in the Spirit.

Acrostic poetry is the foundation of Prayerful Signs—a focus on God’s powerful truth about each and every one of us. In our creation process, prophetic prayer takes on the form of acrostic poetry and shares purposeful, intentional virtues about God’s children as He intended: strong, worthy, beautiful, and loved.

The vision behind Prayerful Signs was to create something unique and custom for each and every client, but the underlying message of our art goes far beyond that. In a world that is so often inundated with mixed messages about what it means to be “worthy” or “loved,” our signs are purposefully crafted with God’s message at the center.

Before we create any product, our team prays asking God to align our hearts with His. We ask Him to give us clarity, to share virtues with us, and to help us create something that truly speaks about His original design for creation.

Acrostic poetry allows for both words and names to have meaning. Each and every letter gives way to a virtue, and each and every virtue is prayed upon until the message is perfect—a true representation of that person in his or her Father’s eyes.

As poetry is prominent in the Bible as a means of expressing beyond the page, our hope is that our designs, signs and prints will speak beyond the physical and meet each and every recipient in the heart.

Our vision is that products can point to the Father and become both tangible and implicit reminders of how vastly powerful our God’s love for us really is.
